Apple and Raspberrie Fruit Rolls

This all started with me ordering 6kg granny smith apples online and when they arrived they were not tasty so nobody wanted to eat them raw. So I decided to make some fruit rolls. This turned out to be a great idea, these were so good, we ate everything in one go. So I made another patch the next day and this patch had the same fate.

These make a perfect healthy candy for kids and toddlers. Perfect snack for a trip. Or taking some withyou, while visiting friends or family, so when other kids eat chemical and sugar laden candy, you have the healthy option to offer your kids and maybe even share with other kids. And you can make all kinds of flavors using drifferent furits. Next I am going to try with banana and apple with carob and cacao and apple with cinnamon. Since I don’t have a food dehydrator, I just used my oven on a low temp. You may loose some nutrition, but not all and it is still better option than store-bought candy.

  • 3 cups of apples, peeled and cut into sectors
  • 1 cup of strawberries
  • 6 dates, soaked
  • Filtered water, add as needed

Preheat the oven on 70C. Put everything in a blender and add some water, just enough to get everything going. Blend until smooth. Cover two baking pans with good quality baking paper and pour half of the liquid on each pan. Smooth even with spatula and put both in the oven for 3-4 hours. After half the time is up, swith the places of the pans, so both get the equal time on lower and upper rack. Since ovens are different start checking after 3 hours by touching with your fingertips. If all the liquid is removed it should be stiky and not leave any fingerprints after touching. When ready, take out from oven and let it cool. Then cut into srtips and roll with or without baking paper.
